Why it’s important to drink more water in the summer months

As the northern hemisphere basks in the summer months our bodies are soaking up sunshine and vitamin D, but the temperatures have been getting frightfully hot in places. Staying hydrated has never been more important. While drinking 8 glasses of water a day is normally advisable, you‘ll need to up that amount when it’s hot out.  Are you drinking enough?

During periods of warmer weather, our bodies cool themselves by sweating more than usual. The body loses fluid this way so it can cause dehydration if you do not stay replenished. Prevent this by drinking more fluids, especially water as it is the cleanest and friendliest way for the body to stay hydrated. Drinking water helps to keep the body and mind healthy

Keep an eye on the amount of water you drink! Make sure you are drinking often enough to feel healthy and energized throughout the day. If you engage in any type of physical activity that makes you sweat, you will need to consume additional water. And if you have a fever or are suffering from any illness, you may lose water from body. This can dehydrate you further. Have a drink of water- plain and fresh or, if you prefer, nicely flavoured with mint or cucumber. Those who are pregnant or breastfeeding also must remember to take extra fluids to keep their body and their baby hydrated. Be mindful and always have water with you.

In the summer, the temptation to reach for a fizzy soda might seem more enticing than plain old water, but your body certainly doesn’t need the extra sugar. Reach for your Life Infinitely water bottle and make your own fruit and flavor infused water. Here are some of our favorite fruit infused water recipes for the summer. Kids will love them as well!
